Silestone®is manufactured in Spain by COSENTINO S.A., a world leader
in the production of silica/quartz agglomerates.
Silestone® is not a natural stone, but a brilliantly formulated alternative manufactured by combining
natural quartz sand with space-age polyresins and pigments in a high-tech vacuum compression system using a "shake
and bake" process.
The result is a non-porous building material available in
slabs with an average dimension of 3040 x 1400 mm, and is available in 12 and 20 mm thickness with 30mm available
on request.
As with natural stone, slabs can be cut to fit kitchen and bathroom
countertops, fireplace surroundings, floor tiles or wall cladding.
Silestone® is the first and only quartz surface to have in-built antibacterial protection that, together with its excellent physical and mechanical properties, makes it the ideal product for places where a high standard of hygiene is required.
Microban® antibacterial protection suppresses the growth of potentially harmful bacteria such as salmonella,
e-coli and listeria - bacteria that can contaminate food. The antibacterial protection is added during the manufacturing process, meaning it is present in every quartz particle of each Silestone top.
Like natural stone, the edges of a piece of Silestone® can be routed and polished to give a superbly
finished appearance.
Silestone® is moderately resistant to heat, and can withstand moderately high temperatures for brief periods of time without being damaged. All stone, including Silestone can be damaged by sudden and extreme temperature changes, especially near the edges.
