Granite Warehouse FAQs
1. Question: How thick is my Granite, Marble or engineered kitchen benchtop and how much does it weigh?
Answer: Most of the kitchen and bathroom benchtops in Perth are usually made from 20mm thick material and to make the 40mm thick edge they double up the material on the edge or overhang. As a general rule 20mm thick granite will weigh approx 60kg per square metre. Engineered stone will weigh approx 55kg per square metre. Marble will weigh approx 50kg per square metre.
2. Question: How much over-hang can I have on my island top or breakfast bar bench?
Answer: As a general rule 300mm is the maximum overhang that you can have; anything over this will require a steel/timber frame or corbels to help support the top.
3. Question: Is a high range material better quality than a low range material and what affects the cost?
Answer: No, the main difference is what it has cost me to get it to you. Some material has easy access and very close to shipping ports, some are in the middle of no-where and our trucking costs are higher. Also, the extraction costs for some mines are more than others and when materials are being processed the recovery or yield from the block can vary adding to, and lifting the price. Also if there is more than one mine or owner of a colour, competition takes over and we can barter for the best price. (Supply and demand.)
